Journal Policies

Scope of the Journal

Eurázsia Szemle is the principal outlet for scholarly articles on Eurasia in Hungary embracing a wide range of academic disciplines in the humanities, social sciences and economics. Edited at John von Neumann University’s Eurasia Center, it covers all aspects of Eurasia Studies from emphasis on theory to empirical research. As a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal, it publishes original research findings, critical literature reviews, case studies, commentaries, and book reviews.

Publication Ethics

Authors should observe high standards with respect to publication ethics as set out by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Falsification or fabrication of data, plagiarism, including duplicate publication of the authors’ own work without proper citation, and misappropriation of the work are all unacceptable practices. Any cases of ethical misconduct are treated very seriously and will be dealt with in accordance with the COPE guidelines.

Fees and pricing

For articles published in Eurázsia Szemle, no article processing charges, no colour print charges, and no additional fees are required. Both the online and the print versions of the journal are available free of charge. Authors and reviewers of the articles do not receive an honorarium.

Authorship

All authors listed on the manuscript should have contributed significantly to the experimental design, its implementation, or analysis and interpretation of the data. All authors should have been involved in the writing of the manuscript at draft and any revision stages and have read and approved the final version. Anyone who made major contributions to the writing of the manuscript should be listed as an author (e.g. “ghost writing” is prohibited by the Journal). Any other individuals who made less substantive contributions to the experiment or the writing of the manuscript should be listed in the acknowledgement section. Any change in authorship (including author order) after the initial manuscript submission must be approved in writing by all authors. All articles must have at least one named individual as author.

Originality

By submitting a manuscript to the journal, it is understood that the article is an original manuscript and is unpublished work and is not under consideration elsewhere. Plagiarism, including duplicate publication of the author’s own work, in whole or in part without proper citation is not tolerated by the journal. Manuscripts submitted to the journal may be checked for originality using anti-plagiarism software.

Use of AI softwares

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) software in scientific research must adhere to principles of transparency, accountability, and ethical application. Authors are required to clearly indicate which parts of their research involved the use of AI tools (e.g., text generation, data analysis, image processing), and to specify the impact of these tools on their findings. Content generated by AI is not considered a contribution of authorship and therefore cannot be listed as a co-author. Researchers bear full responsibility for the content of their submitted manuscript, including the accuracy, originality, and alignment of AI-generated material with standards of scientific integrity. The use of AI should be thoroughly documented in the methods section or in a separate statement, in accordance with safe, ethical, and reproducible research practices.

Conflicts of interest

At the point of submission, each author should reveal any financial interests or connections, direct or indirect, or other situations that might raise the question of bias in the work reported or the conclusions, implications, or opinions stated – including pertinent commercial or other sources of funding for the individual author(s) or for the associated department(s) or organization(s), personal relationships, or direct academic competition. When considering whether you should declare a conflicting interest or connection, please consider the conflict-of-interest test: Is there any arrangement that would embarrass you or any of your co-authors if it was to emerge after publication and you had not declared it?

Peer Review Process

All submissions to the journal are initially reviewed by the Managing Editor and his Associates. At this stage manuscripts may be rejected without peer review if it is felt that they are not of high enough priority or not relevant to the journal. This fast rejection process means that authors are given a quick decision and do not need to wait for the review process.

Manuscripts that are not instantly rejected are sent out for blind peer review, usually to two independent reviewers. Based on the feedback from these reviewers and the Editors’ judgment a decision is given on the manuscript.

Open access

This is an open access journal. This journal does not allow preprints to be posted in commercial repositories before submission to the journal.

Data Policy

It is the policy of Eurázsia Szemle to publish papers only if the data used in the analysis are clearly and precisely documented and are readily available to any researcher for purposes of replication. Authors of accepted papers that contain empirical work, simulations, or experimental work must provide to the Eurázsia Szemle, prior to publication, the data, programs, and other details of the computations sufficient to permit replication.

Material Disclaimer

The opinions expressed in Eurázsia Szemle are those of the authors and contributors, and do not necessarily reflect those of the Editors, the Editorial Board, John von Neumann University, Neumann Lapkiadó és Kommunikációs Kft. or the organization to which the authors are affiliated.

Archiving and Long-Term Preservation Policy

The journal is committed to ensuring the long-term accessibility of all published articles and contributions. The final publisher’s version of each article remains available for every issue in the journal’s online archive and, after publication, will not be removed or placed behind a paywall. Long-term availability of the content is ensured through redundant data backup on the publisher’s servers.

Long-Term Digital Preservation

According to the journal’s long-term digital preservation plan, the complete material of all published articles is preserved in the publisher’s internal archiving system. Ensuring the stable accessibility and integrity of the content is a priority.

Author Self-Archiving

Authors are entitled to deposit the following versions of their articles:

  • the preprint version,
  • the peer-reviewed postprint (accepted manuscript), and
  • the final published PDF in institutional or national repositories, in accordance with the journal’s copyright policy. The journal does not apply any embargo period; repository deposit is permitted without time restriction. When depositing any version in a repository, the accurate bibliographic citation of the published article is required.

Provisions in the Event of Discontinuation

Should the publication of the journal cease for any reason, the publisher ensures that:

  • the final versions of all articles remain available in the long term on the journal’s website,
  • copyright and access conditions remain unchanged, and
  • metadata will not be lost and will remain searchable.

This policy complies with the recommendations of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), with international open access guidelines, and with the publication requirements of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
